•Due to the continuing pandemic pause, all cap & gown orders that were pre-ordered before March 20th, will be automatically canceled and any fees paid will be fully refunded within the next 4-6 weeks, from the vendor, Herff Jones. This includes all Bachelor grads who ordered the additional souvenir tassel, Master, and *PhD orders to rent for the May 2020 ceremony that has been postponed.
*NOTE: The automatic cancellation does NOT include PhD Custom orders already purchased by PhD candidates. These orders are being filled and will be mailed as noted on the Herff Jones site.

Due to the production schedule in early May, before grades are final and degrees conferred, this document does not represent an official list of degree recipients. For students who have FERPA suppression on their official records, please note that their names will not be included unless they approved release of this information in writing, prior to the printing deadline in early May. This document is not be used to determine a student’s academic or degree status. The university’s official registry for conferral of degrees is the student’s permanent academic record, maintained by the Office of the University Registrar.

May 2020 graduates will receive diplomas in the mail in June/July 2020.
Diplomas are mailed to the permanent home address provided in StudentEssentials – be sure the home address is current!

Order formal customized graduation announcements from Balfour to inform family and friends of accomplishments. Balfour also offers thank you notes, etiquette seals, custom seal note cards, return address labels, and certificates of appreciation. For questions regarding specific degree information to print on customized announcements, please contact the student’s college registrar.

Based on guidance from the Ithaca/Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau, some hotels have indicated that they do plan to transfer commencement reservations to the rescheduled dates once announced, or to process refunds for guests who are unable to return at a later date. Some hotels in the area have temporarily closed in order to comply with the New York State on Pause executive order that requires a 100% workforce reduction of non-essential personnel at this time. As such, refunds, cancellations or responses from many hotels may be delayed.
Please check with your hotel to verify their policies related to commencement reservations.
Accessible Parking and Seating at Commencement
If you requested accessible parking and seating during May 2020 Commencement, we have your request on file. Once university officials have set a new date for the 2020 Commencement Ceremony, we will let you know what accessibility option(s) exist that either match your original request or come closest to it. At that time you can let us know whether or not you will travel to Ithaca.
If you have not already requested accessible parking and seating for Commencement 2020, you will be able to do so at a later time.

If you have already placed your order to borrow faculty regalia to wear during the May 2020 Commencement Ceremony, your order will be kept on file. You do not need to cancel the order. If you haven’t ordered faculty regalia yet, you will be able to do so at a later time. As always, there is no charge for borrowing faculty regalia. Cornell’s commencement weekend scheduled for May 22-24, 2020 was postponed as explained in President Pollack’s message to May 2020 graduates. While commencement will be delayed, graduates will receive their degrees on time and diplomas mailed in late June. Please visit Cornell’s coronavirus webpage for current information.
At this time, we do not have an estimated date for an announcement. When government and health officials indicate that planning for major events can take place and set a date for lifting restrictions, university officials will select a new date for Commencement 2020. When a decision is made, it will be communicated to the Cornell community via e-mail and posts at www.commencement.cornell.edu.
All August ’19, December ’19, and May ’20 graduates will be invited to participate. We will also have a virtual participation option for those who cannot travel back to Ithaca.
