Cap & Gown

Please check back in late January 2026 for information about ordering caps and gowns for the May 2026 Commencement Ceremonies.

Each cap & gown order contains a full set of regalia with the pieces, styles, and colors appropriate to the degree being conferred.

Tassel – Tassel color represents one’s conferring college, and may be kept as a souvenir.  In addition to the free detachable tassel, students have an option to purchase a Cornell red & white souvenir tassel, and are welcome to wear both tassels on their caps at graduation.

Hood – A hood is part of graduate degree regalia (no hoods for undergraduate degrees) and represents one’s field of study.  An appropriate hood will be supplied with graduate degree orders.

Cap – All mortar boards and soft tams are one-size-fits-all, so no measuring is necessary when ordering.  The appropriate cap style will be supplied with regalia orders.  Caps may be tastefully decorated and kept as a souvenir.

Gown – The gown style represents the degree being conferred; bachelor, master, vet, law or PhD.  Students only need to know their height when ordering.

PhD degree candidates and/or Faculty wishing to purchase their own regalia through Herff Jones must order by April 1st to allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. Regalia purchases are personal transactions separate from keepsake options above.
