Wearing regalia is both traditional and required for student participation in the procession and ceremony of the university’s Commencement.
The deadline to pre-order a cap & gown outfit appropriate for your degree, online is April 15.

Cap & gown distribution takes place on campus the week of graduation. The company rep brings all pre-ordered outfits to distribute, as well as a large supply of regalia available for walk-ins.
To receive cap & gown, TAKE STUDENT ID and go to Teagle Hall on any of these dates:

You may have a friend pickup for you. Send text or email to friend with full name and height to show vendor you are giving permission to them, to pickup for you.
|If you pre-ordered online, your packaged outfit will be ready for you to pick up. Show your student ID to receive the outfit you ordered.||If you missed the pre-order deadline, stand in the “walk-in order” line to request cap & gown now. Show your student ID to the company rep, who will assemble an outfit for you.
You will need to pay the rental cost, plus $12 late fee, at the time of your walk-in order.
Students, please return all rental gowns and hoods to the Cornell Store during regular business hours.
You may keep your hat and tassel.
Each cap & gown rental order contains a full set of regalia with the pieces, styles, and colors appropriate to the degree being conferred.
Cap – All mortar boards and soft tams are one-size-fits-all, so no measuring is necessary when ordering. The appropriate cap style will be supplied with regalia orders. Caps may be tastefully decorated and kept as a souvenir.
Tassel – Tassel color represents one’s conferring college, and may be kept as a souvenir. In addition to the free detachable tassel, students have an option to purchase a Cornell red & white souvenir tassel, and are welcome to wear both tassels on their caps at graduation.
Gown – The gown style represents the degree being conferred. Students must know their height when placing their order. Gowns must be returned.
Hood – A hood is part of graduate degree regalia (no hoods for undergraduate degrees) and represents one’s field of study. An appropriate hood will be supplied with graduate degree orders. Hoods must be returned.
