Faculty are encouraged to participate in Sunday’s formal Commencement procession and ceremony, wearing academic regalia.
9:15am – Faculty assemble on Arts Quad, wearing regalia
All faculty, including emeritus professors, assemble on the sidewalk at the southeast corner of Morrill Hall.
9:40am – Procession to Schoellkopf begins
The university marshal, the dean of the faculty, and the faculty marshals will lead the faculty past the presidential reviewing party to the sidewalk along Olin Library and into the Day Hall parking lot. The group will divide and line both sides of the sidewalk to allow the academic procession to pass between the two lines.
9:45 – 11:00am – Procession & arrival at Schoellkopf Field
Once the students file past the faculty, the faculty rejoin the procession and proceed to Schoellkopf Field. Volunteers and faculty marshals will direct faculty down the appropriate aisles to their seats.
11:00am – Noon – Commencement Ceremony
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the president, college deans, trustees, administrative staff, and faculty exit in that order using the center aisle.
Interior central campus roads will be closed to all traffic 8am-4pm on Commencement Day. Refer to the parking page for details.
Forest Home Parking Garage: If you are going directly to the Arts Quad to assemble for the procession to Schoellkopf, consider parking in the Forest Home Parking Garage (open, free) then walking over to the Arts Quad.
Other Parking: Faculty may also park on Central Ave (arrive via University Ave) or the Sibley Lot (arrive via University Ave), then walk to the Arts Quad to assemble for the procession to Schoellkopf.
Buses: Buses will run continuous routes across campus 7:30am-5:00pm with stops at A-Lot, West Campus, Central Campus, and B-Lot. If riding a bus to the Arts Quad, exit at the Uris Hall bus stop, then walk to Morrill Hall on the Arts Quad to assemble for the procession to Schoellkopf.
Severe Weather Plan
If we enact our Severe Weather Plan on Sunday, the Commencement ceremony will move inside to Barton Hall, and the procession through campus will not take place. In this situation, we regret that faculty will be unable to attend the indoor ceremony due to space limitations, so please plan to attend your college or department event, per the severe weather schedule.
Faculty are welcome to attend Saturday’s PhD Hooding Ceremony in Barton Hall, and encouraged to participate in the formal procession, wearing academic regalia. Participating faculty will march in the procession and be guided to a seating area by the stage, but will not hood candidates. Faculty may also attend as a guest, not march in regalia, and sit in the audience. All are invited to enjoy the reception immediately following the ceremony.
