Commencement 2020 Updates

Cornell’s commencement weekend scheduled for May 22-24, 2020 has been postponed. In a message to May 2020 graduates, President Pollack committed that a commencement ceremony will still be held in Ithaca for graduates and their families. A date and location will be announced at a later time, as that will be determined by the progression of the current public health crisis. While commencement will be delayed, graduates will receive their degrees on time.

When will the university make a decision about rescheduling Commencement 2020?
At this time, we do not have an estimated date for an announcement. When government and health officials indicate that planning for major events can take place and set a date for lifting restrictions, university officials will select a new date for Commencement 2020. At this time, officials are exploring various options so that planning can be expedited once we are free to move ahead. When a decision is made, it will be communicated to the Cornell community via e-mail and posts at www.cornell.commencement.cornell.edu.

All August ’19, December ’19, and May ’20 graduates will be invited to participate. We will also have a virtual participation option for those who cannot travel back to Ithaca.
