Checklist and Email to Undergraduates

To help you prepare for your special weekend, we have published a CHECKLIST with links to help you navigate through the Commencement website. Undergraduates also received an email from the Commencement Office in early March with instructions and deadlines.

Cap & Gown

Order cap & gown online by April 15. You will pick up your order on campus the week of Commencement, then return items at a campus drop-off location once you're finished with weekend events (or by 5pm Sunday, latest). ...more

Commencement Day (Sunday)

Morning: On Commencement morning, arrive on the Arts Quad at 9:15am, wearing cap & gown, to assemble with your conferring college for the formal procession to Schoellkopf Stadium. Your family should be seated at the stadium by this time, waiting for the procession to arrive. Review the Ceremony Instructions page for other important details.

Afternoon: The University Commencement Ceremony will end by noon and you will then leave the stadium to go to your college or department event, if one is scheduled for that time. Due to large crowds leaving the stadium all at once, it's best to plan ahead to meet your family at your college/department event rather than in the stadium.
(**Be sure all family members know your college AND department so they can look up your event in the Commencement Program and meet you at the correct location.**)

Commencement Packet

An informational Commencement Packet is mailed to undergraduate families.

Diplomas

Diplomas are mailed, not distributed at Commencement events.
The Cornell Store offers quality diploma frames in-store and online.

Planning Your Weekend

There are many events planned for Commencement Weekend. However, there is no one-size-fits-all itinerary, as your weekend schedule will be unique to you. Please review your events with your family, and sure ALL your guests know the name of your college and department.

The large University Commencement Ceremony for graduates of all colleges and degrees will be held Sunday morning. Your college and/or department may also have a ceremony or reception for you and your family to attend. Many of the college and department events take place Sunday afternoon, immediately following Commencement, but some may be held Friday or Saturday, so check your college events schedule and review plans with your family. If you do not have a college or department event to attend Sunday afternoon, you will be finished with Commencement events when the University Commencement Ceremony ends at noon on Sunday. You have until 5:00pm to return your cap & gown on Sunday, so don't feel rushed to return it at noon. Senior Class Convocation (with an invited guest speaker) is on Saturday. At Convocation, you'll sit in the audience with your family and will not wear cap & gown. You may also be part of a Greek or student organization that is hosting an event over the weekend, so plan for that as well. In addition, there may be non-academic events like concerts, religious services, etc. that you and your family may be interested in attending.

Graduate Students

Review the Graduate School website or other appropriate college website for information and instructions for graduate degree candidates. Plan to attend your department/field event. PhD candidates should plan to attend the PhD Hooding Ceremony on Saturday.

Senior Class Convocation (Saturday)

Senior Class Convocation will be held on Saturday, the day before graduation. This senior class event will include an invited guest speaker. Attendance is optional. Students sit in the audience with their guests and do not wear cap & gown. ...more

Severe Weather Plan

Commencement will remain outdoors at Schoellkopf Stadium if it is raining. However, in the event of severe weather, the ceremony time, location, and other logistics will change.
