Ph.D. Recognition Event
Saturday, May 29, 2010, 5:00-6:30pm
Barton Hall

On Saturday, May 29 a special recognition event will be held in Barton Hall at 5:00pm for all Ph.D. candidates to be individually recognized. Families, friends, and faculty members are invited to attend this event. Cap, tassel, hood, and gown must be worn for this event. A reception at Barton Hall for all Ph.D. candidates and their family and friends will follow. Light refreshments will be served.

All candidates are asked to arrive at Barton Hall by 4:15pm to register and line up for the procession. Please report to one of five tables (alphabetic by last name) that will be along the curtain on the Garden Avenue side of Barton Hall. Ushers and Graduate School staff will be there to assist. At 5:00pm a formal procession will begin of candidates, faculty, trustees, Graduate School Dean, and the University President.

RSVP

RSVP form An RSVP is required by May 24 by all Ph.D. candidates planning to participe in the Ph.D. Recognition Event.

Tickets and Number of Guests

There is no limit to the number of guests who may attend. There are no tickets for this event.

Faculty Invitation

Candidates are encouraged to invite special committee faculty members to this event. Two formal invitations will be included in your commencement packet from the Graduate School for you to give to your faculty members. Faculty dressed in regalia will process to the seating area in front of the stage.

Photographs

Professional photographs will be taken of you shaking hands with President Skorton on the stage. A proof for you to review will be sent to you within approximately 30 days. You have the option to purchase additional photographs. Chappell Graduation Images: 800-247-3435.

Elderly and Mobility Impaired Guests

Guests who cannot maneuver the stairs in Barton Hall on the Statler Hall side are encouraged to enter from the Garden Avenue side of the building. Guests using wheelchairs and walkers will be accommodated in the floor seating areas.

Campus Buses

The campus buses will be available on Saturday and Sunday from all regular bus stops on campus.

Commencement Ceremony - Sunday May 30, 2010

On Sunday, May 30, Ph.D. candidates are expected to participate in the university-wide Commencement ceremony. At 9:15am students must gather on the Arts Quad in cap, tassel, hood, and gown, and process into Schoellkopf Stadium. The formal ceremony is 11:00am-noon. The Ph.D. degrees will be conferred by the President at this time. Following the ceremony in Schoellkopf, college ceremonies and receptions are held for graduates and their families at various college locations. Check with your department for specific details.

Diploma Distribution

Graduates who complete all degree requirements by March 13 may receive their diplomas following the University Ceremony. These will be available at the college ceremonies. All other diplomas will be mailed 12-16 weeks after the conferral date, to the home address listed in Just the Facts.
